Junior School is a stage of compulsory education that lasts six years and is divided into 3 blocks.
Montjuïc Girona International School follows a multilingual plan that teaches in Spanish, Catalan, English and French throughout junior school. All compulsory and complementary subjects (maths, art, social and natural sciences, computer science, and personal, social and physical education) are taught in these different languages, with a similar amount of time devoted to each one.
That is why, in the admission of students from other countries who do not speak these four languages, the school has support units to facilitate their integration into the school and provide them with the necessary attention.
The habits of independence, responsibility, organization, study, work, effort and striving to improve are part of our everyday life, along with the strategies and structures of cooperative learning.
We do not neglect emotional education. Emotional deficiencies are an added risk in children’s education, so we must pay particular attention to emotional development. Emotional and social skills are essential to life, so all pupils at this stage carry out a programme suited to their age that allows them to distinguish between feelings and action, and learn how to take better decisions.
Scientific concepts are part of the materials developed in laboratory work from the first year of junior school onwards, as well as the use of new technology, computers and digital whiteboards, which constitute a valuable tool throughout this educational stage.
Particular emphasis is placed on educating and promoting values such as respect, dialogue, justice and tolerance, which are of vital importance in children’s education.
For students with difficulties in a particular subject, the school provides support classes for language, mathematics, and so on. These are given by students during school teaching hours, at the same time as the subject is taught to the rest of the form and in the same classroom, with an appropriate teacher.
Gifted or highly gifted students work with an extended programme, though without neglecting their personal, social and emotional development.
For anyone interested, we also have the option of taking Chinese language classes for two hours per week.
