We want our pupils to develop in an unrestricted manner, and therefore we aim to constantly stimulate the enormous potential that is latent within each child, choosing activities that arouse their interest.
How do we do this at MGIS?
Giving children the freedom (based on reflection and within an established order) to choose the activities they wish to do, and hence follow their inner needs.
Creating a non-competitive environment where each child works at his or her own pace.
Helping each child to develop his or her own skills and fulfil his or her desires without violating the welfare of others.
Helping each child to fulfil his or her responsibilities within the group.
Encouraging pupils to participate in group work with other children.
Making the complete social integration of each child a key role of the teacher.
To make this a reality, teachers must:
Prepare themselves thoroughly.
Prepare the activity and work space in which the children’s work takes place (the classroom).
Direct the efforts and energy of the children towards direct contact with the world around them.
Observe the children, which is in fact the key factor in all their work as an educator. Observation consists of taking note of everything the child does and how he or she does it. To look for anything that could increase the child’s understanding as an individual and help him or her open more doors to discovery.
In addition to general comments, personalized and more precise observations are carried out with the aim of determining the study habits and interests of each child, and his or her strengths and weaknesses. A comprehensive picture of the child is formed, which takes into account aspects of physical, social and intellectual development.
